Asunción: the Paraguay River at the Bay of the Crown
Hora dourada, hora azul e crepúsculo em Asunción. Dados astronômicos NASA JPL DE441.
Photo tip
Costanera de Asunción waterfront at sunset: face northwest over the Paraguay River and the Chaco floodplain. Palacio de Gobierno from the river steps at sunset: the west-facing marble facade turns warm amber in the last 20 minutes of light.
Asunción occupies a bay on the east bank of the Río Paraguay, the main waterway dividing Paraguay from the Argentine Chaco to the west. The historic city centre sits on a small hill facing northwest toward the river. The Costanera de Asunción waterfront runs north-south facing northwest toward the Paraguay River and the low Argentine Chaco floodplain beyond. At -25.3°S, golden hour lasts about 26 minutes. Sunset falls over the river to the northwest. The Palacio de Gobierno, a neoclassical white marble building on the riverfront, faces west and catches full sunset colour on its facade. Cerro Lambaré, 10 kilometers south at 205 meters, gives a panoramic view of the bay and the city from the south. The river reflects purple and orange light in the 20 minutes before full dark in the dry season (April through September).
