Hohensalzburg Fortress terrace (funicular from Festungsgasse) for the old-city–Alps panorama. Museum der Moderne rooftop terrace (Mönchsberg elevator access) for northeast-facing city view. Salzach embankment between the two old town bridges at golden hour.

Hohensalzburg Fortress, built from 1077 on a 120-meter sandstone cliff, has a terrace that faces north over the Salzach river and the old city. The view takes in the Cathedral dome, the St. Peter's Stiftskirche spire, and the Mönchsberg cliff that forms the western edge of the historic center. On clear days the Alps appear to the south. The fortress is reached by funicular from Festungsgasse in 2 minutes. The Museum der Moderne on the Mönchsberg cliff face has a terrace restaurant facing northeast over the city. Kapitelplatz, the large square directly below the fortress, has a golden sphere sculpture (Sphaera) that catches afternoon light. The Salzach river curves around the base of the old city; the embankment between Staatsbrücke and Mozartsteg gives views of both bridges and the cliff in one frame.
