Accra: Atlantic Sunsets on the Gulf of Guinea Shoreline
Hora dourada, hora azul e crepúsculo em Accra. Dados astronômicos NASA JPL DE441.
Photo tip
Independence Square at sunset: face due south through the Black Star Gate for the unobstructed Atlantic horizon with the arch framing the sky. James Town fishing harbour at sunrise: arrive before 5 AM to position among the returning boats in direct east light, with the colonial lighthouse and Ussher Fort visible on the headland.
Accra sits at 5.6°N on the Gulf of Guinea coast, facing south over the Atlantic Ocean. Golden hour lasts around 21 minutes and produces saturated tropical light. Independence Square and the Black Star Gate face the sea to the south — from the square, the view is directly over the Atlantic toward the southern horizon with the arch in the foreground. The fishing harbour at James Town (Ussher Town, 2 km west of the square) is active from 4 AM and provides working-harbour foreground for golden-hour light from the east-southeast. Labadi Beach (northeast of the city, east-facing) catches morning light directly over the ocean. The dry season (November–February) produces clearer skies; the wet season (April–July) brings dramatic ocean cloud formations.
