Conselho fotográfico

East Bank corniche at sunrise: face west over the Nile for the West Bank sandstone cliffs turning deep gold in first light. Qubbet el-Hawa Tombs of the Nobles (West Bank, 100 m above the Nile, by felucca): face east at dawn for the full Elephantine Island panoramic and the Nile flanked by palm gardens.

Aswan is where the Nile transitions from desert canyon into broader valley at the First Cataract, defined by the granite outcroppings that produce the rapids and the island landscape. Elephantine Island (1.2 km long) sits in the middle of the river with the East Bank corniche on one side and the desert West Bank cliffs on the other. The East Bank corniche faces west: at sunrise the first light hits the West Bank sandstone cliffs, turning them deep gold above the river surface. The West Bank has no road — the Tombs of the Nobles (Qubbet el-Hawa, 100 m above the Nile) are reached by felucca and stairs, facing east across the Nile at dawn for the full island panoramic. Philae Temple on Agilkia Island, accessible by boat 5 kilometres south, faces north. At 24.1°N, golden hour lasts about 25 minutes. October through March gives the most horizontal morning light on the West Bank cliffs.
