Cancún: Caribbean Sunrise on the Hotel Zone Strip

Hora dourada, hora azul e crepúsculo em Cancún. Dados astronômicos NASA JPL DE441.

Photo tip

Playa Delfines at the Hotel Zone south end: face northeast at sunrise for open Caribbean horizon. Nichupté Lagoon bridge at sunset faces west over flat water for storm cloud light in summer.

Cancún's Hotel Zone occupies a narrow barrier island running north-south, with the Caribbean Sea to the east and Nichupté Lagoon to the west. The east-facing Caribbean coast delivers sunrise over open ocean; the hotel facades along Boulevard Kukulcán face directly into the morning sun. Playa Delfines, at the southern end of the Hotel Zone, is a beach oriented slightly northeast with an unobstructed water horizon. At 21.2°N, golden hour lasts 23 minutes year-round; the best colour happens in the 15 minutes before sunrise and the 10 minutes after, as the pre-dawn blue-pink gradient over the Caribbean horizon is often stronger than the golden phase itself. The lagoon side at sunset faces west toward the Yucatán interior, where summer storm cells can produce dramatic backlit cloud formations above the mangroves.
