San Diego: Point Loma and the Pacific at Sunrise
Hora dourada, hora azul e crepúsculo em San Diego. Dados astronômicos NASA JPL DE441.
Photo tip
Cabrillo National Monument at sunrise: from the Old Lighthouse face northeast for downtown and Coronado in first light. Sunset Cliffs at golden hour for the sandstone arch formations with the sun over open Pacific.
San Diego's coast runs northwest-southeast, and the peninsula of Point Loma creates one of the most dramatic sunrise viewpoints on the US West Coast. From Cabrillo National Monument at the tip (119 meters), the sunrise comes over the downtown skyline and Coronado Island to the northeast, with the Pacific opening to the southwest. The Old Lighthouse, built 1854, is the foreground element. La Jolla Cove, north of downtown, has sea caves and a north-facing rocky coastline where tide pool reflections add texture to early morning light. Sunset Cliffs, on the Point Loma west side, face directly into the Pacific; the sandstone formations at sea level create natural frames for the sun dropping into open ocean. At 32.7°N, golden hour runs about 34 minutes, with ocean-influenced atmosphere that softens the colour tones.
