Amman: Citadel Light Over the Seven Hills of the Hashemite Capital

Hora dourada, hora azul e crepúsculo em Amman. Dados astronômicos NASA JPL DE441.

Conselho fotográfico

Jabal Weibdeh cafe terraces at sunset: face east-northeast toward the Citadel with a 135–200mm lens to compress the hillside buildings into a stacked amber wall. The Temple of Hercules columns catch the last direct light 8–10 minutes before the surrounding ridge shades the Citadel.

Amman spreads across a series of hills (jebels) in the Jordanian highlands at 32°N. Golden hour lasts around 30 minutes. The Citadel (Jabal al-Qal'a, approximately 840 m above sea level) is the highest of the central hills and holds the Umayyad Palace and the pillars of the Temple of Hercules (2nd century AD). From the Citadel, the view south and west covers the layered hillside neighbourhoods of downtown Amman — dense, sand-coloured buildings that glow uniformly amber at golden hour. The Roman Theatre at the base of the Citadel faces north into the valley; direct morning light enters from the northeast in autumn and winter. The Jabal Weibdeh and Rainbow Street neighbourhoods offer cafe terraces with north-facing views toward the Citadel for telephoto compositions.
