Medellín: the Valley of Eternal Spring at Golden Hour

Hora dourada, hora azul e crepúsculo em Medellín. Dados astronômicos NASA JPL DE441.

Photo tip

Medellín sits at 1,495 meters in the narrow Aburrá Valley of the Andes, with mountains rising steeply on both sides. The Metrocable gondola system connects hillside barrios to the metro network; from the Santo Domingo cable car upper terminus (1,814 m), the full valley and the city below spread out at golden hour with the Cerro Padre Amaya (3,002 m) visible to the southwest. Parque Arví, a protected forest at 2,468 meters reached by the Metrocable Line K, gives panoramic views of the valley from above the urban level. El Poblado district sits at 1,600 meters on the east hillside and faces west toward sunset over the valley. At 6.2°N, golden hour lasts only 21 minutes. Known for its mild year-round temperatures (15-25°C), the city offers photographic windows throughout the year; December through March and July through August are the driest months.
