Bora Bora: Mount Otemanu and the Turquoise Lagoon at Golden Hour

Bora Bora sits at 16.5°S in the Society Islands of French Polynesia, its central basalt peak (Mount Otemanu at 727 m) rising steeply from a circular barrier reef lagoon. Golden hour lasts approximately 22 minutes. From the eastern lagoon shore (Matira Point area), the view west takes in the peak, the reef barrier, and the sunset sky simultaneously. Mount Otemanu is too steep to climb without technical gear; all photography is from water level or the perimeter road on Motu Piti Aau. The dry season (May–October) produces cleaner skies; southeast trade winds maintain visibility in the austral winter months.
