About eclipses

Eclipses occur when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align along the lunar nodes. Solar eclipses happen at new moons, lunar eclipses at full moons. Not every new or full moon produces an eclipse — only those near the nodes. Each eclipse belongs to a Saros cycle, a family of eclipses recurring every 18 years, 11 days.
