Brisbane: the Story Bridge and the River Bends
Golden hour, blue hour, and twilight times in Brisbane. NASA JPL DE441 astronomical data.
Photo tip
Kangaroo Point cliffs at sunrise: face north across the river for the Story Bridge and CBD skyline in direct eastern light. Mt Coot-tha Summit Lookout at golden hour: face east for the full river meander, the CBD, and Moreton Bay on the eastern horizon.
Brisbane wraps through multiple river meanders before reaching Moreton Bay and the Pacific. The Story Bridge (1940), the longest cantilever bridge in Australia, spans the river northeast of the CBD. Kangaroo Point, a basalt cliff 20 metres above the river directly south of the Bridge, gives the elevated north-facing view of the bridge and the city skyline behind: at sunrise, the eastern sky lights the Story Bridge trusses from the front face. Mt Coot-tha (287 m), 7 kilometres northwest of the CBD, provides the panoramic view of the Brisbane River bending through the city and out to Moreton Bay and Stradbroke Island on the Pacific horizon. At -27.5°S, golden hour lasts about 27 minutes. The dry season (June through August) gives the lowest humidity and the clearest visibility for riverside and hilltop photography.
