Astrian is an astronomy and astrology instrument: a set of calculators that work out where the sky was, or will be, from a given place and moment. This page explains what it does, how to reach us, and answers the questions we get asked most.
What Astrian is
The website is a collection of free tools. Birth charts, synastry, solar returns, progressions, transits, astrocartography and a set of calendars — plus Astrian Light, which is about photography rather than astrology: golden hour, blue hour, twilight, moon phases and the 12 August 2026 eclipse.
The app is the eclipse instrument: the local circumstances of the eclipse from wherever you are, including whether the terrain around you will hide the Sun at the moment it matters.
Every figure comes from the same engine, which uses NASA JPL DE441 ephemerides. Nothing is looked up in a table of approximations.
Getting in touch
Write to info@astrian.app. One person reads that address, so an answer takes as long as it takes — but it is a real answer, not a form reply.
If you are reporting something that looks wrong, the most useful thing you can send is the exact date, time and place you entered, and what you expected instead. That is usually enough to reproduce it.
Questions we get asked
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts, no passwords and no sign-up. Nothing you calculate is tied to an identity, because there is no identity to tie it to.
Why does the app ask for my location?
To work out whether the hills, buildings or mountains around you will be in front of the Sun during the eclipse. That depends on the exact spot, and it cannot be answered from the name of a town. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Is it free? Are there ads?
It is free, and there are no ads, no pop-ups and no paywall. If it is useful to you, there is a Ko-fi — entirely optional, and nothing is hidden behind it.
How do I unsubscribe from the newsletter?
Every email carries an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and it works on the first click without asking anything. You can also write to us and we will do it for you.
Are the calculations reliable?
The engine is checked against external references — NASA, the Spanish IGN and the US Naval Observatory — and not only against itself. Where a figure has no external reference to compare against, we would rather say so than imply a precision we have not verified.
