Ho Chi Minh City: Saigon River at the Golden Hour
Golden hour, blue hour, and twilight times in Ho Chi Minh City. NASA JPL DE441 astronomical data.
Photo tip
Bach Dang Wharf (District 1) at dawn: face east across the Saigon River for the Thu Thiem skyline and Bitexco tower in first light. Ben Thanh Market clock tower from the west at sunrise for the colonial facade backlit by the morning sky.
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) sits on the west bank of the Saigon River, 80 kilometers from the South China Sea. The river runs north-south at the city centre; the east bank (Thu Thiem) gives open views across the water toward District 1 and the Bitexco Financial Tower. Sunrise comes from the east, and the District 1 waterfront (Bach Dang Wharf) faces east: at dawn the tower cluster and the colonial-era Opera House catch warm light while the near shore remains in shadow. Ben Thanh Market (1914), its clock tower facing southeast, catches first light from the southeast. At 10.8°N, golden hour lasts only 20 minutes; the 30 minutes before sunrise, when the blue-orange gradient above the river horizon is at its strongest, often provides the most photogenic window. The rainy season (May through October) brings evening cloud formations that can amplify sunset over the western suburbs.
