Little Venice was put here for the sunset
Golden hour, blue hour, and twilight times in Mykonos. NASA JPL DE441 astronomical data.
Photo tip
Little Venice waterfront (Alefkandra) at golden hour for the balcony-over-water-sunset combination. Kato Mili windmills for backlit silhouette shots facing west. Old Port at sunrise for east-facing morning light on the fishing boats.
Mykonos Town (Chora) sits on the west coast of the island, facing west over the Aegean Sea. The neighborhood called Little Venice (Alefkandra) is a row of traditional houses built directly on the waterfront, their wooden balconies extending over the water, facing west-southwest toward the sea and the neighboring island of Delos. The windmills above the town (Kato Mili ridge) are at 30 meters and also face west-southwest — the classic Mykonos shot is windmills backlit by the setting sun. The shot is not a cliché but a fact of geography: the island's west-facing coast puts the light exactly where you need it. At 37°N, golden hour runs about 32 minutes. The Old Port faces east, giving morning light on the fishing boats before the ferry traffic starts.
