About this chart
No birth time is documented for this person. The chart therefore shows planetary positions in their signs, the slow aspects between them, and the generational context — but not house placements, the Ascendant, or the Midheaven, which require an accurate birth time. The Moon's sign carries a ±6° margin: if it falls near a sign boundary, the sign could vary. Positions for all other planets are reliable.

The sky at birth
No birth time is documented for Michael Chang. The Ascendant, the Midheaven, and the house positions cannot be determined; the reading is confined to planetary sign placements and the aspects between planets. The positions below are calculated for noon local time and are accurate to a fraction of a degree for the slow-moving bodies.
The Moon is near 15°52' Gemini (noon position, ±7° margin). Sun is at 3°11' Pisces. Mercury is at 7°43' Pisces. Venus is at 14°31' Aries. Mars is at 8°00' Taurus. Jupiter is at 2°47' Capricorn. Saturn is at 0°02' Gemini. Uranus is at 17°54' Libra, retrograde. Neptune is at 5°12' Sagittarius. Pluto is at 1°25' Libra, retrograde.
The tightest major aspects between planets: Mercury sextile Mars (0°16'); Sun sextile Jupiter (0°23'); Moon sextile Venus (1°22'); Jupiter square Pluto (1°22'); Saturn trine Pluto (1°23'); Sun square Neptune (2°01').
Neptune sextile Pluto (3°47') is structural but generational — an alignment of slow-moving outer planets shared across many birth years.
The engine also registers tight minor aspects involving asteroids and calculated points: Saturn quincunx Lilith (0°12'); Mars semi-square Vesta (0°17'); Sun semi-sextile North Node (0°39'); Venus semi-square Pallas (0°39'). These are reported for completeness and carry less weight in traditional reading.
The chart was calculated using NASA JPL DE441 ephemerides, sub-arcsecond precision.

Astronomical context
Pluto travelled through Libra from 1971 to 1984. In astrological tradition this transit is associated with the transformation of relationships, partnership, and the idea of balance — the cohort that redrew norms around marriage, equality, and the terms of personal alliance.
Michael Chang (born 1972) belongs to this generational configuration. Astrian groups profiles by such shared signatures rather than by any claim of shared destiny. Related profiles in Astrian: Pete Sampras · Monica Seles · Ana Ivanovic. The symbolic reading is correlative, not causal.

Symbolic reading
The following describes what classical astrological tradition associates with these configurations. Astrian does not apply these descriptions to the person's biography.
The Sun in Pisces is the most prominent structural feature available without a birth time, centring the chart on imagination, dissolution, and empathy. There is no Ascendant or Midheaven to anchor the angles, so the reading rests on sign placements and the aspects between planets rather than on houses.
Among the personal planets, the Moon in Gemini is associated in tradition with curiosity, exchange, and versatility (the Moon's sign is given for the noon chart and may shift with an exact time); Mercury in Pisces with imagination, dissolution, and empathy; Venus in Aries with initiative, directness, and the will to begin; and Mars in Taurus with stability, persistence, and the tangible. These placements describe registers of feeling, thought, attraction, and action as the tradition catalogues them, independent of the life that follows.
Mercury sextile Mars (0°16'): tradition reads thought and communication in supportive contact with drive, assertion, and action.
Sun sextile Jupiter (0°23'): tradition reads identity and central purpose in supportive contact with expansion and meaning.
Moon sextile Venus (1°22'): tradition reads emotional life and instinct in supportive contact with values, attraction, and harmony.
Jupiter square Pluto (1°22'): tradition reads expansion and meaning in friction with depth, power, and transformation.
These placements are presented as a symbolic portrait, correlative and never causal — a description within the tradition's vocabulary, not an explanation of the life that follows.
Astrology is a symbolic language with 2,500 years of literature. The reading above is interpretive, not explanatory.
Astrian does not claim that the natal chart of Michael Chang caused or determined any of the above. Astrology is a symbolic system with 2,500 years of literature. Its capacity for retrospective description does not imply explanatory capacity.
A parallel life
The following are verified biographical facts. No connection to the natal chart is implied.
Michael Te-Pei Chang was born on February 22, 1972, in Hoboken, New Jersey. His parents were Taiwanese immigrants, and the family relocated to California during his childhood. Chang showed exceptional aptitude for tennis from an early age, and he turned professional at the age of 15 in 1987, one of the youngest players to do so on the men's professional circuit at that time.
Chang's breakthrough came at the 1989 French Open in Paris. At 17 years old, he became the first American man to win the French Open since 1955, and he remains the youngest male Grand Slam champion in history. His victory included a memorable five-set match against Ivan Lendl in the quarterfinals, during which Chang experienced severe cramping and employed unconventional tactics, including an underhand serve. He defeated Stefan Edberg in a five-set final to claim the title.
Following his French Open victory, Chang became one of the most consistent players on the tour through the 1990s. His game was characterized by exceptional speed, defensive retrieval, and physical endurance. He reached a career-high ranking of world number two in September 1996. He was known as one of the most durable and consistent baseline players of his generation, winning 34 ATP singles titles over his career.
Chang was a regular presence at Grand Slam events throughout the 1990s, reaching the final of the French Open twice more (1995, runner-up to Thomas Muster) and the Australian Open final in 1996. However, he did not win another Grand Slam title after 1989. He was coached for much of his career by his brother Carl Chang, an arrangement unusual in professional tennis.
Chang retired from professional tennis in 2003. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2008. After retirement, he has been involved in coaching and charitable activities, particularly through tennis programs in Asia.
