The sky at birth

With a documented birth time, the full chart can be cast. The Ascendant falls at 25°54' Libra and the Midheaven at 0°33' Leo, which fixes the angular framework and allows the planets to be placed in houses.

Sun is at 26°07' Aries, house 7. Moon is at 4°03' Pisces, house 5. Mercury is at 1°06' Aries, house 5. Venus is at 20°15' Pisces, house 5. Mars is at 3°53' Aries, house 6. Jupiter is at 25°52' Scorpio, house 2, retrograde. Saturn is at 2°06' Leo, house 10. Uranus is at 18°50' Gemini, house 8. Neptune is at 8°59' Libra, house 12, retrograde. Pluto is at 10°59' Leo, house 10, retrograde.

3 bodies occupy Aries (Sun, Mercury and Mars) — a concentration that stands out as a structural feature of the chart.

The tightest major aspects between planets: Mercury trine Saturn (0°59'); Venus square Uranus (1°25'); Mars trine Saturn (1°47'); Neptune sextile Pluto (2°01'); Mercury conjunct Mars (2°47'); Mars opposite Neptune (5°05').

Neptune sextile Pluto (2°01') is structural but generational — an alignment of slow-moving outer planets shared across many birth years.

The engine also registers tight minor aspects involving asteroids and calculated points: Saturn quincunx Juno (0°05'); Pallas square North Node (0°05'); Neptune square Lilith (0°26'); Moon square North Node (0°29'). These are reported for completeness and carry less weight in traditional reading.

The chart was calculated using NASA JPL DE441 ephemerides, sub-arcsecond precision.

Astronomical context

Pluto moved through Leo from the late 1930s to the late 1950s. In astrological tradition this transit is associated with the collective transformation of self-expression, authority, and the cult of the individual — the cohort that rebuilt the post-war world and expanded mass culture.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (born 1947) belongs to this generational configuration. Astrian groups profiles by such shared signatures rather than by any claim of shared destiny. Related profiles in Astrian: Tim Duncan · Bill Russell · Wilt Chamberlain. The symbolic reading is correlative, not causal.

Symbolic reading

The following describes what classical astrological tradition associates with these configurations. Astrian does not apply these descriptions to the person's biography.

The Sun in Aries centres the chart on initiative, directness, and the will to begin. With the Ascendant in Libra, tradition adds balance, relationship, and proportion as the threshold through which that energy meets the world; the Sun marks the central drive, the Ascendant the manner of approach.

Among the personal planets, the Moon in Pisces is associated in tradition with imagination, dissolution, and empathy; Mercury in Aries with initiative, directness, and the will to begin; Venus in Pisces with imagination, dissolution, and empathy; and Mars in Aries with initiative, directness, and the will to begin. These placements describe registers of feeling, thought, attraction, and action as the tradition catalogues them, independent of the life that follows.

Mercury trine Saturn (0°59'): tradition reads thought and communication in easy flow with structure, limitation, and discipline.

Venus square Uranus (1°25'): tradition reads values, attraction, and harmony in friction with disruption and innovation.

Mars trine Saturn (1°47'): tradition reads drive, assertion, and action in easy flow with structure, limitation, and discipline.

Neptune sextile Pluto (2°01'): tradition reads dissolution, imagination, and idealism in supportive contact with depth, power, and transformation.

These placements are presented as a symbolic portrait, correlative and never causal — a description within the tradition's vocabulary, not an explanation of the life that follows.

Astrology is a symbolic language with 2,500 years of literature. The reading above is interpretive, not explanatory.

Astrian does not claim that the natal chart of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar caused or determined any of the above. Astrology is a symbolic system with 2,500 years of literature. Its capacity for retrospective description does not imply explanatory capacity.

A parallel life

The following are verified biographical facts. No connection to the natal chart is implied.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. on 16 April 1947 in the Harlem district of New York City. An exceptionally tall and skilled young player, he dominated at high school and then at the University of California, Los Angeles, where his college teams enjoyed extraordinary success, before entering the NBA.

He began his professional career with the Milwaukee Bucks, winning a championship and a Most Valuable Player award early on, and around this period he announced his conversion to Islam and changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He later moved to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he formed part of the celebrated "Showtime" teams of the 1980s, winning multiple further championships.

Across a long career he was named the league's Most Valuable Player six times and won six NBA titles. His signature shot, the "skyhook", was almost impossible to defend, and he became the NBA's all-time leading scorer, a record that stood for nearly four decades.

Beyond basketball he became a respected author, cultural commentator, and advocate on social and political issues, writing extensively in his later years.

Kareem is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of basketball, his combination of dominance, longevity, and intellectual engagement defining a singular career and public life.
