Source: Biographical sources cited in multiple astrological databases (Rodden B). Original civil registry not independently verified by Astrian.
Astrian documents the sky above the birthplace at the moment of birth and records biographical facts that can be independently verified. This profile does not evaluate, endorse, or criticize the person's public record, positions, or actions. It presents two sets of facts in parallel. Any connection between them is for the reader to judge.
The Sun stands at approximately 5°53' Cancer, having entered the sign six days earlier at the summer solstice. Cancer is the first water sign of the zodiac — in the tradition, associated with attachment to origin, protective instinct, and the emotional register of memory and belonging. The Sun near the beginning of Cancer carries these associations in their freshest form: the degree closest to the solstice cusp.
The Moon, if the birth time of 07:30 SAST is accurate, stands in the early degrees of Virgo, at approximately 8°. The earth sign associated in the tradition with precision, analysis, and the discernment of what is useful from what is not. The Moon in Virgo and the Sun in Cancer do not form an opposition in the strict sense — they are not in opposing signs — but the luminaries stand in adjacent signs with a moderate separation across the wheel.
Mercury and Venus cluster in Gemini in the final degrees of that sign, close to each other: the two inner planets concentrated in the sign of communication, information exchange, and rapid transit between positions. The conjunction of Mercury and Venus in Gemini places the chart's communicative and relational functions in close proximity in the sign the tradition most associates with the dissemination of ideas.
Mars stands in Aquarius in retrograde motion — the planet of action placed in the sign the tradition associates with the collective principle, the systematic overthrow of individual barriers, and the assertion of universal patterns over particular loyalties. Retrograde Mars in Aquarius carries, in the tradition's reading, a quality of deferred or internalized action: force that builds before it manifests outwardly.
Pluto stands in late Virgo in retrograde, at approximately 26°. In June 1971, Pluto was in its final months in Virgo before entering Libra in September 1971. Neptune occupies early Sagittarius in retrograde. Uranus stands in Libra at approximately 10°. Jupiter is in early Scorpio in retrograde.
Elon Musk was born at the end of Pluto's transit through Virgo, which lasted from approximately 1957 to 1972. The Pluto in Virgo generation encompasses those born between the late 1950s and the early 1970s: a cohort that came of age during the first decades of the personal computing revolution and whose members built the technological infrastructures of the early twenty-first century. Others born under this signature include Bill Gates (1955, Pluto in Leo/Virgo cusp), Steve Jobs (1955), Jeff Bezos (1964), Sergey Brin (1973), and Larry Page (1973).
In the astrological tradition, Virgo is associated with precision, technical mastery, the analysis of systems into their component parts, and the drive to optimize what exists. Pluto transiting Virgo is read as generational pressure applied to those structures: the systematic transformation of existing systems through relentless technical decomposition and reassembly. The generation born under Pluto in Virgo inherited the legacy of industrial-era systems and proceeded to dismantle and rebuild them through computation. The reading is symbolic and correlative, not causal.
Musk's Pluto at approximately 26° Virgo places him at the end of this generational transit, in the final years before Pluto's shift into Libra.

The following describes what classical astrological tradition associates with these configurations. Astrian does not apply these descriptions to the person's biography.
The Sun in early Cancer, in close proximity to the solstice point, carries the tradition's reading of Cancer at its threshold: the sign entering its own domain at the beginning of the summer half of the year. The tradition's Cancer register encompasses the protective instinct, the attachment to what sustains, and the difficulty of relinquishing what has once been held. Sun in Cancer in a chart that also features Mercury-Venus in Gemini creates an asymmetry: the communicative and relational functions operate from the sign of rapid circulation and exchange, while the solar center draws toward the sign of attachment and defense of the familiar.
The Mercury-Venus conjunction in late Gemini, with Saturn nearby in early Gemini, concentrates three planets in the sign of information, rapid communication, and the movement between ideas. The tradition reads Mercury in Gemini as in its home sign — the communicative function at its most native. Venus in Gemini introduces the relational principle into the domain of ideas and exchange. The proximity of these two bodies suggests a chart whose interpersonal and communicative functions are deeply intertwined.
Mars in retrograde Aquarius carries the tradition's reading of action deferred through principle. Aquarius is associated in the tradition with the universal over the particular, the systematic over the intuitive, and the belief that correct systems, once designed, will produce correct outcomes. Retrograde Mars here: the drive toward assertion has passed through a cycle of internalization. In the tradition's language, a retrograde Mars in the natal chart is not a diminished Mars but one whose energy has undergone an additional phase before reaching outward expression.

Astrian does not claim that the natal chart of Elon Musk caused or determined any of the above. Astrology is a symbolic system with 2,500 years of literature. Its capacity for retrospective description does not imply explanatory capacity.
The following are verified biographical facts. No connection to the natal chart is implied.
Born in Pretoria, in what was then the Transvaal province of South Africa, the first of three children of Errol Musk, an electromechanical engineer and property developer, and Maye Haldeman, a model and dietitian. His parents separated when he was eight or nine; he lived primarily with his father in Pretoria following the separation.
Musk attended Waterkloof House Preparatory School and later Pretoria Boys High School. He described his childhood as difficult, marked by bullying and social isolation; he has cited early and intense immersion in science fiction and computing as formative. He purchased his first computer at age ten. At twelve he wrote and sold his first piece of software, a video game called Blastar, to a computing magazine for approximately five hundred dollars.
He left South Africa at seventeen to avoid compulsory military service — which he was unwilling to perform in support of the apartheid government — and moved first to Canada, where he held Canadian citizenship through his mother. He studied at Queen's University in Ontario for two years before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania, where he received bachelor's degrees in both economics (from Wharton) and physics in 1995.
He was accepted into the PhD program in energy physics at Stanford University but left after two days to co-found Zip2 with his brother Kimbal. Zip2, a city guide software company licensed to newspapers, was acquired by Compaq in February 1999 for approximately 307 million dollars; Musk's share was approximately 22 million dollars.
He used his proceeds to co-found X.com, an online financial services company, in March 1999. X.com merged with Confinity — whose primary product was PayPal — in March 2000. Following a boardroom conflict, Musk was removed as CEO in September 2000 while he was travelling. The company was renamed PayPal in 2001. PayPal was acquired by eBay in October 2002 for 1.5 billion dollars in stock; Musk's 11.7% stake yielded approximately 175 million dollars after tax.
In May 2002, before the eBay transaction closed, Musk founded Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) in Hawthorne, California, with the stated goal of reducing space transportation costs sufficiently to make the colonization of Mars economically viable. The company's early years included three consecutive Falcon 1 launch failures in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The fourth Falcon 1 launch in September 2008 succeeded — the first privately developed orbital liquid-fueled rocket to reach orbit. SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket subsequently became the most frequently flown orbital launch vehicle in the world. The company's Dragon spacecraft became the first commercially developed vehicle to dock with the International Space Station in May 2012.

In 2004, Musk joined Tesla Motors — founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in 2003 — as chairman of the board and the company's largest investor. Following a management restructuring in 2008, he became CEO. Under his leadership, Tesla produced the Roadster (2008), Model S (2012), Model X (2015), Model 3 (2017), Model Y (2020), Cybertruck (2023), and Semi. As of 2023, Tesla is the highest-revenue electric vehicle manufacturer in the world.
He acquired Twitter for 44 billion dollars in October 2022 following a contentious process that included an attempted withdrawal from the deal and a Delaware court order enforcing the purchase. He immediately dismissed approximately half the company's workforce, renamed the platform X in July 2023, and restructured its content moderation policies.
In 2025 he was appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Trump administration, a role without formal cabinet status, tasked with identifying and implementing federal spending reductions.
