Samuel Eto'o Fils was born on 10 March 1981 in Douala, Cameroon. He moved to Spain as a teenager to pursue his career, developing within the Real Madrid organisation and through loan spells before establishing himself, particularly at Mallorca, as one of the most promising strikers in European football.
He reached the peak of the game with FC Barcelona, where he formed part of a celebrated attacking side, winning multiple La Liga titles and the UEFA Champions League. He then moved to Internazionale, where in 2010 he was part of the team that won the treble of the Italian league, cup, and Champions League, a rare achievement that made him a winner of the competition with two different clubs.
With the Cameroon national team he was the all-time leading goalscorer and a central figure, winning the Africa Cup of Nations and an Olympic gold medal, and he was repeatedly named African Footballer of the Year. He later played in Russia, Turkey, and other leagues.
After retiring he entered football administration, becoming president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, a role in which he remained a prominent and at times controversial public figure.
