Shaun White

Shaun Roger White was born on September 3, 1986, in San Diego, California. He began snowboarding at age six and skateboarding shortly thereafter, quickly demonstrating exceptional ability in both disciplines. He turned professional as a snowboarder at age thirteen and as a skateboarder at seventeen, a dual-discipline achievement that set him apart from his peers from the outset.

White became the dominant force in halfpipe snowboarding throughout the 2000s and 2010s. He won Olympic gold medals at the Winter Games in Turin in 2006, Vancouver in 2010, and Pyeongchang in 2018, becoming the first snowboarder to win three Olympic gold medals in the same event. His gold in Pyeongchang was particularly notable, as he landed the first back-to-back 1440 combination in Olympic halfpipe competition.

In skateboarding, White was a consistent podium finisher at the X Games in the vert discipline, earning multiple gold medals and establishing himself as one of the top vert skaters of his generation. His ability to maintain elite competitive status in two separate action sports simultaneously drew wide recognition from both sporting communities.

Beyond competition, White founded a production company and became an entrepreneur involved in music, clothing, and media projects. He was named as a brand ambassador for several major corporations and used his platform to promote action sports to mainstream audiences. He announced his retirement from competitive snowboarding following the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where he finished fourth in the halfpipe final.

White's career spanned more than two decades of professional competition and fundamentally shaped public perception of snowboarding as a serious athletic pursuit. His technical innovations in the halfpipe, including the development and popularization of several trick combinations, influenced a generation of riders who followed him.
