About this chart

No birth time is documented for this person. The chart therefore shows planetary positions in their signs, the slow aspects between them, and the generational context — but not house placements, the Ascendant, or the Midheaven, which require an accurate birth time. The Moon's sign carries a ±6° margin: if it falls near a sign boundary, the sign could vary. Positions for all other planets are reliable.

The sky at birth

No birth time is documented for Kobe Bryant. The Ascendant, the Midheaven, and the house positions cannot be determined; the reading is confined to planetary sign placements and the aspects between planets. The positions below are calculated for noon local time and are accurate to a fraction of a degree for the slow-moving bodies.

The Moon is near 8°39' Taurus (noon position, ±7° margin). Sun is at 0°09' Virgo. Mercury is at 21°53' Leo, retrograde. Venus is at 16°08' Libra. Mars is at 12°08' Libra. Jupiter is at 27°28' Cancer. Saturn is at 3°28' Virgo. Uranus is at 12°47' Scorpio. Neptune is at 15°33' Sagittarius, retrograde. Pluto is at 14°52' Libra.

3 bodies occupy Libra (Venus, Mars and Pluto) — a concentration that stands out as a structural feature of the chart.

The tightest major aspects between planets: Venus sextile Neptune (0°35'); Neptune sextile Pluto (0°41'); Venus conjunct Pluto (1°16'); Mars conjunct Pluto (2°43'); Sun conjunct Saturn (3°19'); Mars sextile Neptune (3°24').

Neptune sextile Pluto (0°41') is structural but generational — an alignment of slow-moving outer planets shared across many birth years.

The engine also registers tight minor aspects involving asteroids and calculated points: Jupiter sesquiquadrate Vesta (0°07'); Uranus semi-sextile Vesta (0°12'); Chiron trine Ceres (0°20'); Uranus semi-square North Node (0°20'). These are reported for completeness and carry less weight in traditional reading.

The chart was calculated using NASA JPL DE441 ephemerides, sub-arcsecond precision.

Astronomical context

Pluto travelled through Libra from 1971 to 1984. In astrological tradition this transit is associated with the transformation of relationships, partnership, and the idea of balance — the cohort that redrew norms around marriage, equality, and the terms of personal alliance.

Kobe Bryant (born 1978) belongs to this generational configuration. Astrian groups profiles by such shared signatures rather than by any claim of shared destiny. Related profiles in Astrian: Shaquille O'Neal · LeBron James · Allen Iverson. The symbolic reading is correlative, not causal.

Symbolic reading

The following describes what classical astrological tradition associates with these configurations. Astrian does not apply these descriptions to the person's biography.

The Sun in Virgo is the most prominent structural feature available without a birth time, centring the chart on analysis, craft, and the refinement of method. There is no Ascendant or Midheaven to anchor the angles, so the reading rests on sign placements and the aspects between planets rather than on houses.

Among the personal planets, the Moon in Taurus is associated in tradition with stability, persistence, and the tangible (the Moon's sign is given for the noon chart and may shift with an exact time); Mercury in Leo with expression, pride, and the creative self; Venus in Libra with balance, relationship, and proportion; and Mars in Libra with balance, relationship, and proportion. These placements describe registers of feeling, thought, attraction, and action as the tradition catalogues them, independent of the life that follows.

Venus sextile Neptune (0°35'): tradition reads values, attraction, and harmony in supportive contact with dissolution, imagination, and idealism.

Neptune sextile Pluto (0°41'): tradition reads dissolution, imagination, and idealism in supportive contact with depth, power, and transformation.

Venus conjunct Pluto (1°16'): tradition reads values, attraction, and harmony fused with depth, power, and transformation.

Mars conjunct Pluto (2°43'): tradition reads drive, assertion, and action fused with depth, power, and transformation.

These placements are presented as a symbolic portrait, correlative and never causal — a description within the tradition's vocabulary, not an explanation of the life that follows.

Astrology is a symbolic language with 2,500 years of literature. The reading above is interpretive, not explanatory.

Astrian does not claim that the natal chart of Kobe Bryant caused or determined any of the above. Astrology is a symbolic system with 2,500 years of literature. Its capacity for retrospective description does not imply explanatory capacity.

A parallel life

The following are verified biographical facts. No connection to the natal chart is implied.

Kobe Bean Bryant was born on 23 August 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the professional basketball player Joe Bryant. He spent part of his childhood in Italy, where his father played, and became fluent in Italian before the family returned to the United States, where he emerged as one of the most highly regarded high-school players in the country.

He entered the NBA directly from high school in 1996 and spent his entire twenty-season professional career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Alongside Shaquille O'Neal he won three consecutive championships in the early 2000s, and he later led the Lakers to two further titles, for a total of five. He was named the league's Most Valuable Player in 2008 and was selected to the All-Star Game many times across his career.

Known by the nickname "the Black Mamba", he became renowned for an intense, meticulous approach to his craft, often described as the "Mamba mentality", and for a scoring repertoire that included one of the highest-scoring individual games in NBA history. He also won Olympic gold medals with the United States national team.

His career was not without controversy, including a legal case in 2003 that was resolved without a criminal conviction. After retiring in 2016 he pursued interests in storytelling and business, winning an Academy Award for an animated short film based on a piece he had written.

Kobe Bryant died on 26 January 2020 in a helicopter crash in California, alongside his daughter Gianna and others, a loss that prompted an outpouring of public mourning worldwide. He is remembered as one of the most accomplished and influential players in the history of basketball.
