The sky at birth

With a documented birth time, the full chart can be cast. The Ascendant falls at 22°28' Sagittarius and the Midheaven at 9°23' Libra, which fixes the angular framework and allows the planets to be placed in houses.

Sun is at 2°04' Leo, house 8. Moon is at 5°57' Aquarius, house 2. Mercury is at 26°37' Leo, house 8. Venus is at 23°30' Gemini, house 7. Mars is at 26°07' Gemini, house 7. Jupiter is at 22°02' Taurus, house 5. Saturn is at 3°48' Pisces, house 2, retrograde. Uranus is at 8°03' Virgo, house 9. Neptune is at 15°03' Scorpio, house 11, retrograde. Pluto is at 12°33' Virgo, house 9.

The tightest major aspects between planets: Mercury sextile Mars (0°30'); Neptune sextile Pluto (2°31'); Venus conjunct Mars (2°37'); Mercury sextile Venus (3°07'); Sun opposite Moon (3°53'); Saturn opposite Uranus (4°15').

Neptune sextile Pluto (2°31') is structural but generational — an alignment of slow-moving outer planets shared across many birth years.

The engine also registers tight minor aspects involving asteroids and calculated points: Sun sesquiquadrate Vesta (0°19'); Neptune sesquiquadrate North Node (0°23'); Pallas conjunct Juno (0°23'); Moon semi-square Lilith (0°26'). These are reported for completeness and carry less weight in traditional reading.

The chart was calculated using NASA JPL DE441 ephemerides, sub-arcsecond precision.

Astronomical context

Pluto crossed Virgo from the late 1950s to 1971. In astrological tradition the passage is linked to the transformation of work, health, technique, and systems of organization — the generation that came of age amid automation and the reorganization of labour.

Barry Bonds (born 1964) belongs to this generational configuration. Astrian groups profiles by such shared signatures rather than by any claim of shared destiny. Related profiles in Astrian: Ken Griffey Jr. · Mickey Mantle · Derek Jeter. The symbolic reading is correlative, not causal.

Symbolic reading

The following describes what classical astrological tradition associates with these configurations. Astrian does not apply these descriptions to the person's biography.

The Sun in Leo centres the chart on expression, pride, and the creative self. With the Ascendant in Sagittarius, tradition adds expansion, conviction, and the horizon as the threshold through which that energy meets the world; the Sun marks the central drive, the Ascendant the manner of approach.

Among the personal planets, the Moon in Aquarius is associated in tradition with independence, abstraction, and the collective; Mercury in Leo with expression, pride, and the creative self; Venus in Gemini with curiosity, exchange, and versatility; and Mars in Gemini with curiosity, exchange, and versatility. These placements describe registers of feeling, thought, attraction, and action as the tradition catalogues them, independent of the life that follows.

Mercury sextile Mars (0°30'): tradition reads thought and communication in supportive contact with drive, assertion, and action.

Neptune sextile Pluto (2°31'): tradition reads dissolution, imagination, and idealism in supportive contact with depth, power, and transformation.

Venus conjunct Mars (2°37'): tradition reads values, attraction, and harmony fused with drive, assertion, and action.

Mercury sextile Venus (3°07'): tradition reads thought and communication in supportive contact with values, attraction, and harmony.

These placements are presented as a symbolic portrait, correlative and never causal — a description within the tradition's vocabulary, not an explanation of the life that follows.

Astrology is a symbolic language with 2,500 years of literature. The reading above is interpretive, not explanatory.

Astrian does not claim that the natal chart of Barry Bonds caused or determined any of the above. Astrology is a symbolic system with 2,500 years of literature. Its capacity for retrospective description does not imply explanatory capacity.

A parallel life

The following are verified biographical facts. No connection to the natal chart is implied.

Barry Lamar Bonds was born on July 24, 1964, in Riverside, California. His father, Bobby Bonds, was a prominent Major League Baseball outfielder, and his godfather was Willie Mays, one of the most celebrated players in the history of the sport. Bonds grew up around professional baseball and attended Arizona State University, where he was an All-American selection.

Bonds was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round of the 1985 MLB Draft and made his major league debut in 1986. With the Pirates, he developed into one of the premier players in the National League, winning two MVP awards (1990, 1992) and establishing himself as a complete player combining power, speed, and defense. He signed with the San Francisco Giants as a free agent after the 1992 season.

With the Giants, Bonds continued his outstanding play and won additional MVP awards in 1993, 2001, 2002, and 2004. His 2001 season produced 73 home runs, breaking the single-season record previously held by Mark McGwire. His career total of 762 home runs surpassed Hank Aaron's record of 755. He was also walked intentionally 688 times and drew 2,558 total walks over his career, both MLB records.

Bonds' career and legacy became substantially complicated by allegations of performance-enhancing drug use. He was indicted in 2007 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice related to testimony before a federal grand jury investigating the BALCO scandal, a sports doping case. In 2011, he was convicted on one count of obstruction of justice; the conviction was later vacated by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2015. He has maintained that he was not knowingly aware of using banned substances.

Bonds retired after the 2007 season. He has been eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame but has not been inducted through the traditional writers' vote, with voters citing the performance-enhancing drug controversy. He is regarded as one of the most talented and statistically productive position players in baseball history.
