The sky at birth
With a documented birth time, the full chart can be cast. The Ascendant falls at 19°15' Libra and the Midheaven at 24°55' Cancer, which fixes the angular framework and allows the planets to be placed in houses.
Sun is at 27°28' Aquarius, house 4. Moon is at 9°24' Gemini, house 8. Mercury is at 29°38' Aquarius, house 5. Venus is at 20°38' Pisces, house 5. Mars is at 2°48' Gemini, house 8. Jupiter is at 0°36' Sagittarius, house 2. Saturn is at 4°22' Capricorn, house 3. Uranus is at 13°45' Leo, house 10, retrograde. Neptune is at 6°56' Scorpio, house 1, retrograde. Pluto is at 3°06' Virgo, house 11, retrograde.
The tightest major aspects between planets: Mars square Pluto (0°19'); Mercury square Jupiter (0°59'); Saturn trine Pluto (1°16'); Sun conjunct Mercury (2°10'); Mars opposite Jupiter (2°11'); Jupiter square Pluto (2°30').
Neptune sextile Pluto (3°49') is structural but generational — an alignment of slow-moving outer planets shared across many birth years.
The engine also registers tight minor aspects involving asteroids and calculated points: Jupiter semi-square North Node (0°02'); Sun trine Pallas (0°04'); Mercury quincunx Vesta (0°25'); Jupiter trine Vesta (0°34'). These are reported for completeness and carry less weight in traditional reading.
The chart was calculated using NASA JPL DE441 ephemerides, sub-arcsecond precision.

Astronomical context
Pluto crossed Virgo from the late 1950s to 1971. In astrological tradition the passage is linked to the transformation of work, health, technique, and systems of organization — the generation that came of age amid automation and the reorganization of labour.
John McEnroe (born 1959) belongs to this generational configuration. Astrian groups profiles by such shared signatures rather than by any claim of shared destiny. Related profiles in Astrian: Björn Borg · Andre Agassi · Billie Jean King. The symbolic reading is correlative, not causal.

Symbolic reading
The following describes what classical astrological tradition associates with these configurations. Astrian does not apply these descriptions to the person's biography.
The Sun in Aquarius centres the chart on independence, abstraction, and the collective. With the Ascendant in Libra, tradition adds balance, relationship, and proportion as the threshold through which that energy meets the world; the Sun marks the central drive, the Ascendant the manner of approach.
Among the personal planets, the Moon in Gemini is associated in tradition with curiosity, exchange, and versatility; Mercury in Aquarius with independence, abstraction, and the collective; Venus in Pisces with imagination, dissolution, and empathy; and Mars in Gemini with curiosity, exchange, and versatility. These placements describe registers of feeling, thought, attraction, and action as the tradition catalogues them, independent of the life that follows.
Mars square Pluto (0°19'): tradition reads drive, assertion, and action in friction with depth, power, and transformation.
Mercury square Jupiter (0°59'): tradition reads thought and communication in friction with expansion and meaning.
Saturn trine Pluto (1°16'): tradition reads structure, limitation, and discipline in easy flow with depth, power, and transformation.
Sun conjunct Mercury (2°10'): tradition reads identity and central purpose fused with thought and communication.
These placements are presented as a symbolic portrait, correlative and never causal — a description within the tradition's vocabulary, not an explanation of the life that follows.
Astrology is a symbolic language with 2,500 years of literature. The reading above is interpretive, not explanatory.
Astrian does not claim that the natal chart of John McEnroe caused or determined any of the above. Astrology is a symbolic system with 2,500 years of literature. Its capacity for retrospective description does not imply explanatory capacity.
A parallel life
The following are verified biographical facts. No connection to the natal chart is implied.
John Patrick McEnroe Jr. was born on 16 February 1959 in Wiesbaden, in what was then West Germany, where his father was serving in the United States Air Force; the family soon returned to the United States, and he grew up in New York. He rose rapidly as a junior, reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon as a qualifier while still a teenager.
He became one of the leading players of his era, a left-hander renowned for his exceptional touch, volleying, and serve-and-volley game rather than power. He won seven Grand Slam singles titles, including multiple US Open and Wimbledon championships, and reached the world No. 1 ranking, while also enjoying great success in doubles. His rivalries with Björn Borg and Jimmy Connors were among the defining storylines of tennis at the turn of the 1980s.
He was equally known for a fiery on-court temperament, frequent disputes with officials, and outbursts that became part of his public image, encapsulated in a phrase associated with him for the rest of his career.
After retiring from the main tour he became one of the most prominent and respected commentators in the sport, and he remained a visible public figure.
McEnroe is remembered as one of the most gifted shotmakers in the history of tennis and one of its most distinctive personalities, his artistry and temperament together defining his place in the game.
