About this chart

No birth time is documented for this person. The chart therefore shows planetary positions in their signs, the slow aspects between them, and the generational context — but not house placements, the Ascendant, or the Midheaven, which require an accurate birth time. The Moon's sign carries a ±6° margin: if it falls near a sign boundary, the sign could vary. Positions for all other planets are reliable.

The sky at birth

No birth time is documented for Magic Johnson. The Ascendant, the Midheaven, and the house positions cannot be determined; the reading is confined to planetary sign placements and the aspects between planets. The positions below are calculated for noon local time and are accurate to a fraction of a degree for the slow-moving bodies. One caveat: the Moon lies near a sign boundary, so without an exact time it cannot be fixed to a single sign — it sits close to 1°00' Capricorn within a daily margin of about ±7°.

The Moon is near 1°00' Capricorn (noon position, ±7° margin). Sun is at 21°09' Leo. Mercury is at 7°45' Leo, retrograde. Venus is at 15°50' Virgo, retrograde. Mars is at 15°47' Virgo. Jupiter is at 23°04' Scorpio. Saturn is at 0°49' Capricorn, retrograde. Uranus is at 16°58' Leo. Neptune is at 4°24' Scorpio. Pluto is at 3°29' Virgo.

3 bodies occupy Leo (Sun, Mercury and Uranus) and 3 bodies occupy Virgo (Venus, Mars and Pluto) — a concentration that stands out as a structural feature of the chart.

The tightest major aspects between planets: Venus conjunct Mars (0°03'); Moon conjunct Saturn (0°11'); Neptune sextile Pluto (0°55'); Sun square Jupiter (1°56'); Moon trine Pluto (2°29'); Saturn trine Pluto (2°41').

Neptune sextile Pluto (0°55') is structural but generational — an alignment of slow-moving outer planets shared across many birth years.

The engine also registers tight minor aspects involving asteroids and calculated points: Sun sextile Juno (0°02'); Sun semi-square North Node (0°03'); Uranus semi-sextile Vesta (0°22'); Saturn quincunx Lilith (0°39'). These are reported for completeness and carry less weight in traditional reading.

The chart was calculated using NASA JPL DE441 ephemerides, sub-arcsecond precision.

Astronomical context

Pluto crossed Virgo from the late 1950s to 1971. In astrological tradition the passage is linked to the transformation of work, health, technique, and systems of organization — the generation that came of age amid automation and the reorganization of labour.

Magic Johnson (born 1959) belongs to this generational configuration. Astrian groups profiles by such shared signatures rather than by any claim of shared destiny. Related profiles in Astrian: Allen Iverson · Shaquille O'Neal · LeBron James. The symbolic reading is correlative, not causal.

Symbolic reading

The following describes what classical astrological tradition associates with these configurations. Astrian does not apply these descriptions to the person's biography.

The Sun in Leo is the most prominent structural feature available without a birth time, centring the chart on expression, pride, and the creative self. There is no Ascendant or Midheaven to anchor the angles, so the reading rests on sign placements and the aspects between planets rather than on houses.

Among the personal planets, the Moon in Capricorn is associated in tradition with ambition, structure, and the long view (the Moon's sign is given for the noon chart and may shift with an exact time); Mercury in Leo with expression, pride, and the creative self; Venus in Virgo with analysis, craft, and the refinement of method; and Mars in Virgo with analysis, craft, and the refinement of method. These placements describe registers of feeling, thought, attraction, and action as the tradition catalogues them, independent of the life that follows.

Venus conjunct Mars (0°03'): tradition reads values, attraction, and harmony fused with drive, assertion, and action.

Moon conjunct Saturn (0°11'): tradition reads emotional life and instinct fused with structure, limitation, and discipline.

Neptune sextile Pluto (0°55'): tradition reads dissolution, imagination, and idealism in supportive contact with depth, power, and transformation.

Sun square Jupiter (1°56'): tradition reads identity and central purpose in friction with expansion and meaning.

These placements are presented as a symbolic portrait, correlative and never causal — a description within the tradition's vocabulary, not an explanation of the life that follows.

Astrology is a symbolic language with 2,500 years of literature. The reading above is interpretive, not explanatory.

Astrian does not claim that the natal chart of Magic Johnson caused or determined any of the above. Astrology is a symbolic system with 2,500 years of literature. Its capacity for retrospective description does not imply explanatory capacity.

A parallel life

The following are verified biographical facts. No connection to the natal chart is implied.

Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr. was born on 14 August 1959 in Lansing, Michigan. He acquired his nickname as a high-school player for his all-round skill, and after a celebrated college career at Michigan State University — which included a national championship won against a team led by Larry Bird, beginning one of the sport's great rivalries — he entered the NBA.

He spent his playing career with the Los Angeles Lakers, where, as an unusually tall point guard, he became the orchestrator of the fast-paced, attacking style known as "Showtime". He led the Lakers to multiple NBA championships through the 1980s and was named the league's Most Valuable Player several times, while his rivalry with Bird's Boston Celtics helped drive the NBA's rise in popularity during the decade.

In 1991 he announced that he had tested positive for HIV and retired from regular play, a moment of major public significance at a time of widespread fear and stigma around the virus. He made a brief return to the sport, including playing for the United States "Dream Team" that won gold at the 1992 Olympic Games, and later made another short comeback before retiring for good.

Beyond basketball he became a prominent businessman and investor, building enterprises across a range of sectors and becoming involved in the ownership of professional sports franchises. He also became a public advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness through his foundation.

Magic Johnson is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of basketball and a transformational figure both on the court, for his redefinition of the point guard role, and off it, for his public life after his diagnosis and his subsequent business career.
